Gyan Mudra

To form Gyan Mudra, put the tip of the thumb together with the tip of the index finger. This mudra stimulates knowledge and ability and gives you receptivity and calmness. The energy of the index finger is often symbolized by Jupiter, the planet representing expansion. The most commonly used mudra, it has two forms of practice: passive, as described above, and active. In the practice of powerful pranayams or exercises, the "active" form of the mudra is often used. In this case, the index finger is bent under the thumb so the fingernail is covered by the pad of the thumb and the three fingers remain straight and active.
